Hutchinson bounced back quite nicely while Seward has now lost three out of the last four. After the #13 and defending NJCAA champions lost at home to Dodge City Saturday, they beat suddenly sagging Seward 83-60 in the refurbished Hutchinson Sports Arena Wednesday night.
The Blue Dragons had a dizzying 26 assists and made 30 baskets. They shot 48 percent and only turned it over 11 times against Seward’s top ranked defense in the Jayhawk. The Saints shot 35 percent and committed 19 turnovers. Hutch led points off turnovers 17-5 and points in the paint 34-22. More fouls were called against Hutchinson than Seward.
It was a record night for Seward’s Terrell Alfred. He made eight three pointers which tied Michael Tyree from 2007 for the most in a game in Seward history. He was 8-11 from downtown for 27 points. Isiah Small had 13 points and nine rebounds.
Seward is 11-7 overall and 7-7 in the Jayhawk. The Blue Dragons are 15-3 and 11-3 in the Jayhawk. It’s Hutch’s eighth straight win over the Saints. The Saints play at Butler Saturday night at 7:30 on 107.5 and kscbnews.net.
