DODGE CITY, Kan. (AP) – The Kansas Highway Patrol says a fatal three-vehicle accident in western Kansas was caused by the winter’s first storm.

The patrol reports that the accident occurred shortly before 8 p.m. Wednesday on U.S. Highway 50, about 13 miles east of Dodge City.

Patrol Lt. Randy Mosher says the accident occurred during blizzard conditions.

A vehicle with a trailer was traveling west went across the center of the highway. An eastbound vehicle struck the trailer and a second, west-bound vehicle struck debris in the highway.

Mosher says the victim was a passenger in one of the vehicles but investigators are still trying to determine exactly what happened. Others involved in the accident suffered only minor injuries.

The identity of the victim has not been released.
