BJ’s Gain Much Needed Victory Over Larks

KSCB News - July 17, 2015 7:17 am

The Bee Jays needed that. They scored three runs on three hits and got excellent pitching and defense in a 3-2 win over the Hays Larks at Brent Gould Field Thursday night. The win means Liberal needs one more win to take second in the Jayhawk League North. If Haysville can win the south over Wellington, Liberal will make the NBC with one more win.

Kadon Simmons pitched 7.1 strong innings in a no decision. He struck out seven without a walk. Thomas Garland pitched two scoreless innings for the win.

Liberal scored first against Hays starter Cam Roegner when Brent Williams singled to lead off the fourth. He advanced to second on a pitch in the dirt. Nick Brooks bounced a double down the third base line to score Williams. Hays bounced back with two in the sixth. Liberal got to the Lark bullpen in the eighth which walked four in a row. Gavin Wehby scored the tying run on a wild pitch. Brady Cox blooped a single to right to score the lead run. Hays out-hit Liberal 6-3. The BJ’s played errorless baseball.

Liberal is 25-16 overall and 19-14 in the Jayhawk while Hays is 21-18 and 17-16. The Larks must win their final three games to take second. Friday night is the final home game as Liberal hosts the Larks at 7 and Apple Hutch is the buyout sponsor. It airs on 1270 and kscbnews.net. Host families will be recognized before the game.
