The Bishop Carroll Lady Eagles defeated the Liberal Lady Redskins 52-38 Friday night in the semifinals of the 5A state basketball tournament in Hartman Arena at the Topeka Expocentre.

The Lady Redskins led 7-6 after one but the Lady Eagles outpaced Liberal 17-5 in the second quarter to lead 23-12 at halftime. LHS outscored Carroll 16-13 in the third quarter and cut the lead to six at 36-30 but couldn’t get over the hump.  The Lady Eagles outscored the Lady Red 16-10 in the fourth quarter.

Bishop Carroll’s defense clamped down on the Lady Skins holding them to 30 percent shooting on the night. Carroll shot just 37 percent. Liberal was 3-16 from three point range and 9-11 at the foul line and Carroll was 5-13 from three and 13-17 at the line. LHS committed 15 turnovers so BCHS led points off turnovers 16-7.

Katie Horyna scored 18 in the loss and Machia Mullens had eight points and 10 rebounds. Aubrey Warden had five points and seven rebounds.

Liberal is 22-2 and Carroll is 19-5. Liberal plays Maize for third Saturday at noon in Hartman Arena with Redskin Pregame at 11:45 on 1270 and kscbnews.net. Carroll plays St Thomas Aquinas for the state title. Aquinas beat Maize 41-34.
