Sublette’s 12 players were enough to propel the team to the 2A state baseball tournament for the third time in four years. Sublette rides a hot streak into Emporia’s Soden’s Grove Thursday. The Larks have won nine of the last 10 including regional wins over 18-3 over Elkhart and 9-3 over Moscow last week. Those wins came against teams the Larks split with during the regular season. Head coach Ryan Hafen is in his fifth year as head coach and has established Sublette as the top 2-1A baseball program in the area.

Two senior help lead the Lark offensive attack. Center fielder and catcher Avigael Gonzalez is batting .390 with three homers, 16 RBI’s, three doubles, and four triples. First baseman Laramie Lumley swings a big stick batting .365 with a homer and a team leading 25 RBI’s. Sophomore Andrew Lower is batting .419 with 15 RBI’s, two doubles, and two triples. Junior catcher Trevor Leverett is batting .386 with 19 RBI’s and three doubles.

On the mound, Leverett is 4-2 with a 2.48 ERA. He won both regional games. Gonzalez is also 4-2.

Six seeded Sublette is 13-8 and plays 13-3 Olathe Heritage Christian Thursday night at 6:30. Second seeded 19-3 Sedan plays 12-9 Inman, four seeded 16-5 Valley Falls plays #5 14-5 Brookville-Ell Saline, and top seed 14-2 St. Paul plays 9-10 Medicine Lodge in first round games.
