The Seward County Saints returned to the basketball court Monday afternoon and evening. It’s a new year and the start of the second semester for SCCC. Unfortunately for the guys in green, the result was all too familiar. The Colby Trojans shot 60 percent going 30-50 from the field and made 11-19 three pointers on the way to beating the Saints 79-59 Monday afternoon and evening at the Colby Events Center. The game was scheduled for Saturday but was moved to Monday due to an ice storm.
The Trojans jumped all over the Saints to take a 10-0 lead. The Saints rallied to lead 11-10. Seward built a six point second half lead but Colby led 34-29 at halftime. The Trojans took a 42-29 second half lead before the Saints rallied to tie the game at 52-52 after a barrage of 3’s by Carson Bennett. Colby pulled away late finishing the game on a 27-7 run.
Seward shot 46 percent from the field in the loss and went 10-18 from three. Colby clobbered the Saints on the boards 30-13.
Carson Bennett was Epic Touch Player of the Game scoring a career high 23 points and making 7-10 three pointers. Kiku Parker added 11.
Seward loses for a second straight year at Colby. The Trojans are 9-6 overall and 4-5 in the KJCCC. Seward falls to 2-11 overall and 1-7 in the Jayhawk.
