Bee Jays Win 8-5 to improve to 2-0

The Liberal Bee Jays won their first opener in three years on Friday night. On Saturday, the Bee Jays continued their good start as they broke a 5-5 tie in the seventh inning thanks to a throwing air which ended up leading to three Liberal runs and an 8-5 Bee Jays victory over the Denver Bombers. The BJ manager John Martin credits Chandler-Gilbert’s Aaron Mees for a solid game offensively and defensively. San Diego’s Nick Youpel pitched an inning and a third of scoreless relief before closer Lamar’s Brandon Ward-Hersee pitched a scoreless ninth for his first save. Ward-Hersee shattered the NJCAA record for saves in a season with 24 this spring. The Bombers head back to the “Mile High City” 2-2 while the BJ’s improve to 2-0. The Bee Jays host another Rocky Mountain League team Sunday and Monday when the Denver Renegades come to town for 7 p.m. games. Holiday Inn Express Hotel and Suites and Days Inn are the buyout sponsor for Sunday’s game.
