Bee Jays Walk their Way to Home Opening Win

The visiting Colorado Roughriders walked 16 hitters and the Liberal Bee Jays took advantage in a 20-1 win Wednesday night at Brent Gould Field.  The B.J.’s win their home opener and Rocky Mountain League opener in the process.  The previous three home openers were rained out.

The Roughriders scored one in the first.  Liberal scored two in the third after three Roughrider walks.  The Roughriders walked six in the third as Liberal scored eight runs.  The B.J.’s added two in the fourth, five in the fifth, and three in the sixth.  Liberal out-hit the Roughriders 10-5 and both teams committed errors.

Ryota Kusumoto was 3-3 with a triple and five RBI’s.  Isaac Webb was 2-5 with three RBI’s.   Owen May was 2-4 with two RBI’s.  Davin Ronquist pitched the first three innings and did not allow an earned run.  He struck out three and walked one.  Hunter Phillips went two shutout innings with five strikeouts and three walks.  Elkhart’s Kage Ralstin worked two shutout innings with four strikeouts and one walk.

Liberal is 5-2 and 1-0 in the Rocky Mountain Baseball League.  The Roughriders are 1-6.  The same two teams meet Thursday night at 7pm on 1270 and 92.3.  The Bee Jay Dugout Show begins at 6:45.  Golden Plains Credit Union and Fellowship Baptist Church are the buyout sponsors.
