The Liberal Bee Jays have won three of their four games with the Colorado Roughriders this season. After a win Wednesday, Liberal gained two more wins beating the Roughriders 14-3 and 5-2 Friday night at Brent Gould Field. The teams will play in Denver July 12.
In game one, the teams combined for as many errors as hits. The Roughriders committed seven errors and Liberal had three. Liberal out-hit Colorado 6-4. The Roughriders scored two in the first. Liberal scored one in the first without a hit. The Bee Jays scored 10 in the second on just two hits. The Roughriders had five errors in the inning. Ryota Kusumoto had two hits and an RBI in the inning. The B.J.’s had two runs on three hits in the third. River Jackson singled. Derek Lukes doubled down the right field line. Justin Hudson grounded to third but drove home the run. The Roughriders scored another unearned run in the fourth. Luke Rhee singled to lead off the fourth and would later score on another error. Tristan Crusenberry pitched four innings and did not allow an earned run. He struck out five. Luke Wilkerson pitched one scoreless inning.
Game two Friday night was the most well played game of the series. The Bee Jays scored four in the first. Owen May singled and Isaac Webb doubled him home. Walker Polk launched a home run to right center. Sawyer Chesley doubled home a run to left center. The Roughriders scored in the third. Liberal scored in the third. Ethan Calder singled to lead off the third. After a walk and a fielder’s choice, Zane Eylar walked with the bases loaded to score a run and make it 5-1. The Roughriders scored in the fourth. Liberal out-hit the Roughriders 7-5. Both teams committed two errors a piece. Konnar Williams worked five innings with eight strikeouts. He did not allow an earned run. Tyler Hankins worked two scoreless innings. Owen May was 2-2.
The Roughriders are 1-8 and Liberal is 7-2 overall and 3-0 in the Rocky Mountain Baseball League. Liberal plays at the Denver Cougars at Metro State on Monday and Tuesday at 7:30 cst on 1270 and 92.3. Pre-game at 7:15 cst.
