The Liberal Bee Jays won their opener over the Dodge City A’s 8-0 Friday night over Brent Gould Field.  Dodge City only had 15 players and had two pitchers in the lineup.  But it was Liberal’s first game of the season and they showed very few signs of rust.

The Bee Jays scored two in the second when Hooker native Chad Kennedy from Oklahoma Christian ripped a two RBI single up the middle.  Kennedy lashed a double to right center in the fourth and scored on a Trent Maloney (Metro State) infield single.  Cale O’Donnell (Metro State) singled home two in the sixth.  Nicholls State’s Gage Teer hit a sac fly for a three run sixth to make it 6-0 BJ’s.  Teer’s two RBI single in the eighth gave the BJ’s an 8-0 lead.  Liberal out-hit Dodge City 12-7.  Dodge had three errors and only allowed three earned runs.

Lamar’s Darren Cook pitched six scoreless innings with six strikeouts and one walk.  Murray State’s Chance Carner pitched two scoreless innings and WT’s Thomas Garland pitched a scoreless ninth.

Liberal is 1-0 and Dodge City is 1-2 and 0-1 in the Jayhawk.  The two teams clash at Dodge City’s Cavalier Field Saturday night at 7:30 with the Dugout Show at 7:15 on 1270 and kscbnews.net.
