Bee Jays Handle Haysville

The Liberal Bee Jays have won their first Jayhawk League series of the season. Liberal secured that with a 9-2 win over the Haysville Aviators at Vulcan Field in Haysville Wednesday night.

Liberal got good pitching and the BJ bats feasted on the Haysville bullpen scoring six runs in the last three innings.

Zach Zeller pitched five scoreless innings for the win. Josh Zanger went three innings allowing one earned run. Boone Montgomery pitched a scoreless ninth.

Jonathan Tapia made things happen in the second when he stole second, an error allowed him to third, and another error allowed him to score. Daniel Abiles ripped a double to left and would score on a Clint Allen single to left. Brock Burton lashed a double to right center to lead off the fourth and scored  on an Abiles RBI single for a 3-0 lead. The Aviators scored in the sixth on a bases loaded wild pitch but Zanger allowed nothing more in the inning. Tom Lichty and Brock Burton provided RBI singles in the seventh for a 5-1 lead. Liberal allowed an unearned run in the seventh on a throwing error to make it 5-2. Channy Ortiz singled, Abiles reached on an error, and Dane Simon singled to lead off the eighth. Allen lifted a sacrifice fly to left and Chase Hacker ripped an RBI single to left for s 7-2 advantage. The Bee Jays scored two more in the ninth on a two RBI single by Abiles.

Libersl had nine runs on 12 hits and an error while Haysville had two runs on six hits and four errors.

Libersl is 4-1 and 2-0 in the Jayhawk League while he Aviators are 2-3 and 0-2 in league. The teams wrap up their series Thursday night at 7 in Haysville with pregame at 6:45 on 1270 and kscbnews.net.
