Liberal seemed to have things under control until the sixth inning of a lackluster 6-2 loss to the Derby Twins in Derby Friday night. They led 2-0 and JB Olson was cruising. But a ground ball to third was thrown over the first baseman’s head for an error and then two bunt singles loaded the bases with no outs. The Twins scored three runs to take a 3-2 lead. They blew it open with three more in the eighth on three doubles and ne more BJ error.
Liberal scored first but was more whimpering than resounding. They loaded the bases with no outs in the fifth but only scored one run and that was thanks to a Twin error. Liberal had runners on first and second with one out in the sixth and scored thanks to an error and a great slide at home by Patrick Kulick. But then the BJ’s struggled the rest of the way.
Derby out-hit Liberal 9–7 and Derby had three errors while the BJ’s had two. Liberal is 5-1 and 1-1 in the Jayhawk while the Twins are 4-2 and 1-1 in the Jayhawk.
