The Liberal Bee Jays go 3-1 on their four day road trip after and 11-4 win over the Fort Collins Foxes Friday night at City Park in Fort Collins. The B.J.’s sweep the two games over the Foxes.
Liberal scored three in the second. Ryota Kusumoto lashed a double off the fence in right center to lead off the inning. Matt Cormier singled him home. Robert Orr doubled. Cesar Gomez walked with the bases loaded. Elijah Batista singled home a run for the 3-0 lead. The Foxes countered with a three run third due to three hit batters, one walk, and one hit. The Bee Jays created some space between themselves and Fort Collins with a five run sixth. After two Fort Collins errors, Kai Smith singled and James Nolan singled home two runs. Ben Merriman cranked a three run home run to left for the 8-3 lead. Fort Collins scored one in the sixth on a double and a wild pitch. Liberal took a 9-4 lead with a run in the eighth. Kai Smith singled to lead off the inning. Ben Merriman ripped a double off the top of the center field fence to make it 9-4. The Jays added two more in the ninth on three walks and one Kusumoto hit. Cesar Gomez made the defensive play of the year diving into the fence and over the tarp in foul ground down third. Ryota Kusumoto was Epic Touch Player of the Game going 4-5 with three doubles. Ben Merriman was 2-6 with a home run, a double, and four RBI’s. Kai Smith was 2-4.
Fort Collins is 5-7 overall and 2-5 in the Rocky Mountain. Liberal is 6-2 overall and 5-2 in the RMBL. Liberal hosts the Western Nebraska Pioneers Sunday night at 7pm with the Dugout Show at 6:45 on 1270 and 92.3.
