Bee Jays Burst into Championship Week

In the third year of the NBC’s current format, the Liberal Bee Jays broke through. Liberal joins Jayhawk League brother Wellington as the two teams to advance from the NBC’s First Week to Championship Week. After an 11-1 five inning run rule win over the Mile High Collegiate champs, the Colorado Cyclones, the Bee Jays earn a spot in the tournament’s second 16 team double elimination field.
Liberal struck for three in the first after Brent Williams singled home a run, Brady Cox doubled in a run, and Brody Miller singled home the third run. Liberal exploded for a five run second. Madison Foster and Cox provided RBI singles before Miller provided a three RBI double to left. Gavin Wehby and Foster added RBI doubles in the third to make it 10-1. Cox tripled down first to lead off the fourth and scored on Miller’s single to lead 11-1. Cox was 3-3 with a triple and a double and Miller was 3-3 with five RBI’s. Tyler Wiedenfeld went four strong innings without allowing an earned run. Matt Hape pitched a scoreless fifth as the Cyclones had just three hits.
The Bee Jays face the San Diego Waves Saturday at 1 pm on 1270 and kscbnews.net. Liberal has won 11 of 12 and is 33-17 while Colorado finishes 24-12.
