GREAT BEND, Kan. – Seward County Community College fell in their doubleheader at Barton Community College 8-0 in game one and 9-3 in game two. The Lady Saints are now 2-14 on the year and 0-4 in the KJCCC, with the Conquistadors from Dodge City up next Saturday at French Family Field starting at 1 p.m. CT.
Game 1
To start the day, the Cougars scored first with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning. Barton continued to separate themselves with three runs in the third inning to take a 5-0 advantage. A three-run home run in the bottom of the fourth for the Cougars put the Lady Saints behind 8-0. Seward County’s Taylor Grubbs recorded a single in the third inning, Sanaa Keeswood recorded a single to start the fourth, and Shyanna Stopp recorded a single in the fourth.
NaTalia Sewell pitched the entire game with four innings, eight hits, eight earned runs, and three strikeouts from the circle.
Seward County fell to 2-13 on the year and 0-3 in the KJCCC and looked to get things going in game two.
Game 2
The Lady Saints started game two with an RBI single to right field by Lana Pigeon that scored Stopp from third base. Seward County led for the first time in the series in the top of the first inning. Barton responded with a home run in the bottom of the inning as the game was tied 1-1. The Cougars scored three runs in the bottom of the second and two in the fifth to take a 6-1 lead.
In the fourth inning, Seward County answered back as Avery Ragsdale stole home off of an error, and Samantha Gomez scored after NaTalia Sewell grounded out. The Lady Saints cut into the Cougar lead but trailed 6-3. At the bottom of the fourth inning, the Cougars scored three more runs to take a 9-3 lead. Both teams went scoreless in the final four innings as Seward County fell 9-3 in the final game of the doubleheader.
Seward County will host Dodge City on Saturday, March 4th, at French Family Field for a doubleheader that starts at 1 p.m. CT.
