Ayden Juarez is Hay Rice and Associates Athlete of the Week

Liberal senior linebacker and running back Ayden Juarez is this week’s Hay Rice and Associates Athlete of the Week.  Juarez leads the WAC in tackles for loss with 13 and is second in the WAC with 73 tackles.  He has one interception.   He has emerged offensively.  He has gone from being a key blocker at H-back to 7 carries for 113 yards and a touchdown at running back last week in a 53-6 win at Ulysses.  Juarez excels in other sports as well.  He was 4th at the state wrestling meet last year.  He was 2nd team all WAC in wrestling.  The Kansas Wrestling Coach’s Association ranks him seventh in the state at 215 pounds in the pre-season.  As a sophomore in powerlifting, Juarez was the 5A M220 state champion. He beat the all time state record by 20 pounds for highest total with 1,245. His bench was 375 lbs while his power clean was 350 and his squat was 520. Juarez qualified for state in the javelin in track and field.  Juarez and the Redskins play at Hays Friday night with Redskin Pre-game at 6pm on 1270 and 92.3.
