Arroyo Muscles Up in Opener

KSCB News - June 2, 2011 7:13 am

Last year Eddie Arroyo had an outstanding season for the Liberal Bee Jays. He hit over .300 and stole 15 bases while playing a solid second base for the NBC champion Bee Jays. But in joining his former junior college coach Mike Silva with the BJ’s this summer, Arroyo did something in the opener he didn’t do in 2010. Arroyo broke a 5-5 tie in the sixth with a homerun over the right field law to pave the way for a 10-5 BJ victory over the Pueblo Collegians at Brent Gould Field. Arroyo was 4-5 with three RBI’s.

The BJ’s received an outstanding pitching performance out of the bullpen from Campbellsville right hander Rusty Devett who pitched five scoreless innings with 11 strikeouts. Campbellsville righty and returning BJ Michael McBride started opening night and pitched the first four innings.

The BJ’s have more pitchers than position players right now so Texas-Arlington’s Kasey Merck was 3-4 with two RBI’s.

Liberal hosts Pueblo again Thursday night. Brown’s Furniture is the buyout sponsor.
