Almeida Found Guilty of Aggravated Indecent Liberties with a Child

On Monday, June 6th, 2022, the Liberal Police Department received a report that Jorge Almeida, 41, sexually assaulted a 7 year old girl on several occasions. The report alleged Mr. Almeida and his wife paid the victim’s mother $10,000 to not report the assaults to the Police and then made her sign a document that claimed the allegations were false. Law enforcement conducted interviews of the victim and witnesses and executed a search warrant at Mr. Almeida’s home. Law enforcement collected documents and electronics that were later sent to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation for analysis which corroborated the report. Mr. Almeida has three previous convictions for Sexual Exploitation of a Child and was on the sex offender registry.

On November 3rd, after a week long jury trial, Mr. Almeida was found guilty of three counts of Aggravated Indecent Liberties with a Child. Due to the age of the victim, the penalty for these crimes are 25 years to life in prison for each count. His sentencing is scheduled for December 1st, at 1:30 pm at the Seward County Courthose.
