The Barton Cougars humbled the Seward County Saints 23-1 and 6-0 Saturday afternoon and evening at Brent Gould Field in Liberal.  After a promising start to the series on Thursday in Great Bend, the #9 Cougars roared back to take the series 3-1.

In game one, Barton scored in every inning.  They scored two in the first, six in the second, two in the third, nine in the fourth, and four in the fifth on the way to the five inning run rule win.  Jarron Wilcox homered to left in the third for what would be Seward’s only run of the day.  The Cougars out hit the Saints 17-3.  Seward continued to struggle defensively.  After four errors in game two Thursday in Great Bend, they committed four more errors in game one Saturday afternoon.

In game two, the top pitching team in the KJCCC continued to hold down the top hitting team in the KJCCC.  Seward pitched better in game two to keep the game closer.  Barton scored one in the first, two in the third, two in the sixth, and one in the eighth.  Seward’s best chance to score came in the third.  Connor Raney hit a hustling pop fly double and Cameron Cartwright legged out a double on a fly ball lost in the sun.  Barton out hit the Saints 10-5 while Seward committed three errors and Barton had one error.  Tristan Curless went five innings on the mound allowing three runs with four strikeouts and four walks.  Elias Herrera pitched three innings allowing one earned run.  TJ Newman worked a scoreless ninth.

Seward is 21-21 overall and 11-9 in the Jayhawk West.  Barton is 35-4 overall and 14-2 in the Jayhawk West.  Seward hosts Colby Thursday at 1pm at Brent Gould Field with Saints Dugout Show at 12:45 on 1270 and 92.3.
