A Frenzied 4th Leads Lady Saints Past Butler

The Seward Lady Saints trailed by 19 early in the third quarter. They were struggling in every way. They perked up in the third quarter to cutting the Butler lead to 10 after three. Then, the Seward Lady Saints went crazy in the fourth quarter. Seward out scored Butler 30-13 in the fourth quarter to shock the #23 Lady Grizzlies 63-56 Tuesday night in the Green House. It’s Seward’s first win over at ranked opponent since beating #20 Hutchinson 66-61 February 16 of 2022.
Seward struggled with Butler’s aggressiveness in the first half. The Lady Grizzlies led 14-6 after one and 30-16 at the half. Seward played better in the third quarter out-scoring Butler 17-14 in the third cutting the lead to 41-33 with 2:21 to play in the third and 43-33 after three. Butler melted down with a barrage of turnovers in the fourth quarter while Seward’s offense erupted. Seward scored 30 in the fourth quarter and 33 in the other three quarters.
Both teams struggled taking care of the ball. Seward committed 28 turnovers in the win and Butler had 27 turnovers. Seward shot 38 percent and 40 percent from three going 10-25. Seward was 11-12 from the free throw line. Butler shot 38 percent and 8-23 from three for 35 percent. Butler was just 5-13 from the free throw line. Butler out rebounded Seward 38-36.
Ari Gordon was Epic Touch Player of the Game with 25 points, five rebounds, three steals, and three blocks. Kylee Hunt added nine. Biyannah Ellis led the Lady Saints with six rebounds.
Butler falls to 6-1 and 1-1 in the Jayhawk. Seward is 6-2 and 2-1 in the Jayhawk. SCCC breaks a five game losing skid against BCC. Their last win was an overtime win January 19 of 2022 68-67 in Liberal. Seward hosts Pratt Saturday night at 6pm in the Green House. KSCB and the Legend is the buyout sponsor.
