An Unfortunate Fifth Ends Bee Jay Season

Brock Kappelmann - August 1, 2024 7:25 am

After taking a 3-0 lead, the Liberal Bee Jays watched the Hutchinson Monarchs scored 11 runs on the way to a 15-4 run rule game Wednesday afternoon at Eck Stadium in Wichita.  The loss ends the B.J. season in the round of 12 at the 90th NBC.

Liberal got off to a good start.  Bee Jay pitcher Brooks Kappelmann put up four scoreless innings.  Liberal scored in the second as Hutchinson’s pitcher struggled with control walking three and hitting one.  Matt Cormier was hit with the bases loaded to score a run.  The Bee Jays scored two in the third to lead 3-0.  Ryota Kusumoto singled home a run and Cesar Gomez singled home a run.  But Hutch scored 11 runs on nine hits in the fifth to put the game away.  They added four in the seventh for good measure.  Liberal scored their last run of the season when Kyzer Harrington doubled and Miller Durham doubled him home.

Hutchinson out-hit Liberal 15-6.  Brooks Kappelmann was Epic Touch Player of the Game going four scoreless innings allowing one hit with five strikeouts.

Hutch is 29-9 and Liberal finishes 26-9.
