Solar Car Challenge Pit Stops in Liberal

KSCB News - July 25, 2010 12:00 am

High school students driving solar-powered cars from Texas to Colorado have taken a pit stop in western Kansas.

Fourteen solar cars built by high school students from across the country stopped at Mary Frame Park on Friday.

They’re taking part in the 2010 Hunt-Winston School Solar Car Challenge.

The cars are en route from Fort Worth, Texas, to Boulder, Colo., as part of an 8-day race.

The solar car challenge, established in 1993, is designed to motivate engineering and science students, while boosting awareness of alternate energy. The objective is for the participants to build road-worthy solar-powered automobiles.

The race started a week ago and ended Sunday in Colorado
