The Great Bend Panthers topped the Liberal Redskins 3-1 Tuesday night at the Great Bend Sports Complex. The Panthers scored two unearned sixth inning runs to spoil Skyler Hubbard’s solid outing on the mound.
The #7 ranked class 5A Panthers scored a run in the third on a single, a stolen base, and an RBI single. The Redskins scored a run in the sixth. Landon Martinez and Alex Schwindt singled. Marco Alonso reached on an error. Landon Martinez scored on a wild pitch. LHS had second and third and one out but the GBHS got a strikeout and a ground out to end the inning. In the bottom of the sixth, the first two Panthers flied to left. But after two singles and a walk, Liberal committed a throwing error going past first allowing two runs to score.
The Panthers out-hit the Redskins 7-2. GBHS had two errors and LHS had one. Skyler Hubbard was Epic Touch Player of the Game going six innings allowing one earned run.
Great Bend wins their sixth straight against LHS. The Panthers are 14-4 overall and 6-2 in the WAC. Liberal falls to 6-13 overall and 2-5 in the WAC. Liberal plays two at Hays Thursday at 4pm with Redskin Pre-game at 3:45 on 1270 and 92.3.
