LAVERNE, OK – The Laverne Police Department requested the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation to investigate allegations regarding a teacher conducting inappropriate communications with a minor student.

OSBI special agents began their comprehensive investigation and identified the suspect as 25-year-old Brogan Sears, who is a former teacher and coach at Laverne High School. During the investigation, it was determined that Sears had sent sexually explicit messages to the student over the last several months.

Based on the information obtained during the investigation, the Harper County District Court issued an arrest warrant for Sears. On the afternoon of April 22, 2025, Sears turned himself in to the Harper County Sheriff’s Office. He was booked into the Harper County Jail on four counts of Obscene or Indecent Writings and one count of Sexual Exploitation of a Child. Sears’ bond was set at $100,000.

This is still an ongoing investigation. The OSBI appreciates the Harper County Sheriff’s Office, Oklahoma Highway Patrol, and the Laverne Police Department for their assistance with this case. Protecting our children is a top priority for the OSBI, as well as our law enforcement partners.
