A Comeback in Black for the Redskins

The Liberal Redskins have secured a WAC series.  The Skins rallied from down 8-3 to stun the Garden City Buffaloes 9-8 Tuesday night at Lightner Field in Garden City.

The Redskins scored one in the first.  Alex Schwindt ripped a triple to left center and scored on Landon Martinez’s RBI single to right.  The Buffaloes countered with five in the first on three hits and two Redskin errors.  LHS crept closer with two in the fourth.  Xavier Porras singles and Kye Morris singled him home.  Ethan Olmstead singled home Morris.  GCHS plated one in the fourth and two in the fifth to lead 8-3 after five.  GCHS pitching struggled in the sixth paving the way for a six run sixth for the Redskins.  Blayden Betts led off the inning with  a single.  Kye Morris, Ethan Olmstead, and Skyler Hubbard walked to score a run.  Alex Schwindt singled home a run to make it 8-5.  Marco Alonso ripped a three RBI double to center to tie the game at 8-8.  Eathan Hernandez scored home the lead run when Garden recorded an out at first on a dropped third strike.  The Redskins held GCHS scoreless the last two innings.

Alex Schwindt was 2-4 with a triple.  Xavier Porras was 2-4.  Marco Alonso got the win pitching 2 and 2/3 innings allowing two earned runs.  Blayden Betts struck out three in the seventh for the save.  Liberal out-hit Garden City 10-7.  LHS committed four errors.

Garden City is 4-9 and 1-6 in the WAC.  Liberal is 5-11 overall and 2-3 in the WAC.  The Redskins are scheduled to play at Cimarron on Friday for a double header at 4pm.
