Liberal Slugs Six Home Runs in Wins at Hugoton

On a hot and windy afternoon and evening, the Liberal softball team hit six home runs on the way sweeping the Hugoton Eagles 21-2 and 21-2.

In game one, the Lady Red slugged five home runs.  Liberal scored four in the first and Hugoton answered with two.  LHS added one more in the second before blowing the game wide open with 11 in the third and five in the fourth to win in a four inning run rule.  LHS out-hit HHS 20-2.  Zoey Torres was 4-4 with two home runs, a double,  five RBI’s, and three runs.  Taylor Harding was 3-4 with a home run, a double, three RBI’s, and three runs.  Viviana Favila was 3-3 with a home run and three runs.  Miley Janko was 3-3. Haiden Lyon was 2-3 with a home run and three RBI’s.   Lexi Miller was 2-2 with a double and three runs.  Zoey Torres pitched three innings with five strikeouts and one walk.

Game two only went three innings due to run rule.  LHS scored 15 in the first, five in the second, and one in the third.  Liberal out-hit Hugoton 10-6.  Taylor Harding was 2-3 with a home run and three runs.  Lexi Miller had a triple and five RBI’s.  McKenna Alexander was 2-2.  Devaney Carter pitched all three innings for the win.

Hugoton is 7-5.  Liberal is 5-6 and plays a single game at Garden City on Tuesday.
