Liberal baseball coach Eric Olmstead reached a milestone on Thursday. He gained his 200th win as Redskin head coach as the Skins topped Woodward 11-10 at the National Beef Sports Complex.
The Boomers scored first wit ha run in the first. LHS answered with a run in the second, three in the third, and one in the fourth to lead 5-1. Woodward took a 9-5 with eight in the fifth. The Redskins stormed back with a six run fifth to lead 11-9. The Boomers crept closer with a run in the sixth. But LHS held Woodward scoreless in the seventh to give Liberal’s most winning baseball coach his 200th career win.
Liberal out-hit Woodward 12-9. Woodward had five errors and Liberal had three. Alex Schwindt was 2-2 with two runs and two RBI’s. Kye Morris was 2-3 with two RBI’s and a triple. Landon Martinez was 2-3 with two RBI’s and two runs. Xavier Porras was 2-4. Blayden Betts hit a triple down the right field line and drove home two.
It was not an easy day to pitch or play defense with south winds gusting up to 60 miles per hour and temperatures in the low 90’s.
Woodward is 7-18. Liberal is 4-9 and plays at Wichita State Saturday at 2pm against Olathe East and Olathe West.
