Seward Softball Sweeps Lamar

– The Seward County Community softball team swept Lamar Community College, 7-4 and 7-3, in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday. The Lady Saints are 7-17 in the Jayhawk Conference and 15-25 overall. Seward returns to conference play at Colby on Friday with games at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

GAME ONE

Seward jumped out to an early lead and held on for a 7-4 victory over Lamar in game one.

The Lady Saints started fast with six runs in the first two innings to grab a 6-0 advantage. Seward scored four times in the first on a Kynleigh Kirby RBI double, a sacrifice fly by Hailey Michalik, Alyssa Morgan‘s steal of home and a wild pitch that scored Jolee Limon. SCCC tallied two more runs in the second when Clarissa DeLaFuente stole home and Taryn Golden scored on an error.

Lamar jumped back in the game with a four-run fourth inning to trim the deficit to 6-4. Seward iced the contest with Emily Lane‘s RBI single in the sixth inning and capped the scoring for the 7-4 win.

GAME TWO

Jahlisa Klear‘s two-out, three-run triple snapped a 3-3 tie in the sixth inning and the Lady Saints went on to a 7-3 triumph over the Runnin’ Lopes in the nightcap and complete the sweep of the doubleheader.

With the game tied and one out for Seward in the sixth inning, Emily Lane reached first on error. After a strikeout, Brooklynn Castagnetta walked and Taryn Golden was a hit by pitch to load the bases. Klear then cleared the bases with a triple down the right-field line and gave the Lady Saints a 6-3 lead. A Lamar error followed and allowed the final run to score.

Seward opened the scoring in the first inning when Alyssa Morgan and Kynleigh Kirby teamed up with back-to-back doubles for a 1–0 advantage. Lamar scored twice in the third inning for a 2-1 lead, but Seward took over again in the fifth at 3-2 on Morgan’s two-run inside-the-park homer.

The Lopes scored again in the sixth inning to tie the game before Clear’s heroics in the bottom of the inning.
