According to the Kansas Department of Transportation, a bridge repair project is expected to start the week of April 21 along U.S. 50, approximately 6 miles east of the Kansas/Colorado state line.
The project is necessary to repair damaged concrete corral rail on the eastbound shoulder. Concrete barrier wall will be placed on the eastbound shoulder separating the traffic from the workers. There will be a width restriction of 12 feet in the work zone. Motorists should be alert for traffic control signing and devices. A flagging and pilot car operation may be used at certain times during the project during construction.
Reece Construction, of Salina, is the contractor on this $252,527.60 project. Weather permitting, it is expected to be completed by June.
Also in Hamilton County, a highway resurfacing project is expected to start the week of April 21 along K-27 north of Syracuse, starting from the west U.S. 50/ K-27 junction north to the Greeley/ Hamilton county line.
K-27 will be reduced to one lane in smaller sections as work takes place on the 19.4-mile project area. Motorists should expect delays of up to 15 minutes as flaggers and a pilot car direct one-lane traffic through the work zone. The lane reduction will be marked by signs and cones. K-27 will be open to normal traffic when construction is not taking place.
Bettis Asphalt & Construction Inc., of Topeka, is the contractor on this $2.9 million project. Weather permitting, it is expected to be completed by mid-June.
