Mary L. Howard, age 95, died Sunday, April 13, 2025, at Western Prairie Senior Living Community in Ulysses, Kansas. She was born on March 03, 1930, in Freedom, Oklahoma, the daughter of Joseph Earl and Bertha May (Kinnicutt) Delong.
Mary grew up in Freedom, Oklahoma, and graduated from Freedom High School. She married Charles Raymond Howard on May 31, 1947, in Ulysses, Kansas. Mary was 1 of 13 siblings. She loved each and every one of her family dearly, especially the grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She enjoyed working in the garden and yard and always had her beloved pets around. She was a homemaker to Raymond and worked for 26 years as a cook in the cafeteria at Sullivan School until she retired in 1991. Mary was a member of Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and worked many hours in the gift shop. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Ulysses.
Mary is survived by two grandsons, Bryan K. Smith and wife Shawna of Ulysses, and Chris Howard and wife Lynn of Phoenix, Arizona; sister, Vergie Brewer of Whitewater, Kansas; and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond; son, Wayne Howard, daughter, Vivian Smith; six brothers and five sisters.
Graveside service will be Thursday, April 17, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses with Pastor Steve Swann, Jr. officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 16, 2025, from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.
