Anna L. Hill

Anna L. Hill, age 88, passed away early Sunday morning, April 13, 2025, at the Pioneer Manor, Hugoton, Kansas.

She was born September 10, 1936, at Argonia, Kansas, the daughter of Russell and Zelma (Fulton) Strader. As a young girl, she attended school in Argonia before transferring to Wellington, Kansas, graduating from Wellington High School in 1954.

On June 20, 1954, she married Gerald William Hill at Wellington. After their marriage, the couple made there home in Wellington, moving to Plains, Kansas, on August 1, 1964. After moving to Plains, she attended beauty school in Liberal. A longtime area resident, she was a hairdresser for many years.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Plains, the American Baptist Women, and the Needles and Friends Quilt Guild. She enjoyed quilting, embroidery, traveling, helping her husband farming, and spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her children, Deborah (Jack) Benjamin of Inola, Oklahoma, Kathryn (Curt) Haynes and of Hugoton, Kansas, and Jeffrey (Kristi) Hill of Gallatin, Tennessee; seventeen grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband Gerald on August 2, 2024; her daughter Brenda Sylvester, her parents; a great-grandson, Dominic Esarey; and four brothers, James, Carl, Robert, and Kenny Strader.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 17, 2025, at the First Baptist Church, Plains. Interment will follow in the Plains Cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday with the family present to receive friends at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade, Kansas.
