It’s a program which has struggled to gain footing in  Liberal throughout the years.  LHS softball hasn’t enjoyed a winning season since 2019.  They were 4-17 last year with a 1-11 WAC record.  But returning players with all WAC experience, a new coach, and an influx of talented freshman thrusts LHS softball into the 2025 season.

Matt Quint steps in as head coach.  He was an assistant last year and has coached Junior Elite and Venom softball for the past five  years.   In fact Quint has coached many of the current Redskin softball players.  Quint is a former college baseball pitcher and coach who has turned to coaching youth softball.  He coached baseball at Garden City Community College two years, Millard West in Omaha, Nebraska and was pitching coach when the Liberal  Bee Jays won the 2010 NBC World Series title.

Liberal returns proven talent.  Zoey Torres is back as a senior pitcher and catcher.  She was first team all WAC as a sophomore.  Senior Taylor Harding at shortstop, catcher, and pitcher has been second team all WAC the past two years.  Senior Lexi Miller at first base and center field was second team all WAC as a sophomore.

The rest of the varsity currently consists of Sr. McKenna Alexander and Sr. Karime Anchodo.  Junior Miley Janko leads that class.  Freshmen Allie Champion, Haiden Lyon, Devanay Carter, Brooklyn Short, and Vivian Favila will contribute to the varsity.

Liberal has a lineup with improved versatility and an unprecedented six pitchers for a program which has often struggled in the circle.

LHS is four years removed from breaking a 65 game WAC losing streak which ran from 2012 to 2021. During 2023 and 2022  LHS has been 3-9 in the WAC. Liberal’s last winning season was 2019 when they were 12-9.
