Norma Lee “Toy” McCauley, age 93, died Monday, March 10, 2025, at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in Wichita, Kansas. She was born on December 27, 1931, in Haskell County, Kansas, the daughter of Fred Norman and Anita Helen (Cotton) Hammer.
Norma was a lifetime resident of Grant County. She graduated from Grant County Rural High School in 1949 and married Robert C. “Bob” McCauley on June 7, 1950, in Clayton, New Mexico. Norma helped with the family custom harvesting business and took many home cooked meals to the field, worked at Gray and Rosel and The Hutch. She enjoyed tending to her gardens, both flower and vegetable, and canning the fruits of her labor. She enjoyed going to basketball games and was a KU basketball fan. She spent many hours with her dog, Jersey Girl. Norma was an active member of Shelton Memorial Christian Church and helped with the annual bazaar.
Norma is survived by her sons, Tim McCauley and Kim Keusler and Randy McCauley both of Ulysses; sisters, Gloria Ford of Topeka, Mary Wieland and husband, Charlie, of Shawnee, and Karen Priest of Olathe; sisters-in-law, Mora Jean Hammer of Russellville, Arkansas, and Betty McCauley of Ulysses; brother-in-law, Herk Bair of Independence, Missouri; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Norma is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Anita Hammer; husband, Bob; son Steve McCauley; brother, Jess Hammer; grandson, Heath McCauley; brothers-in-law, Jack Ford and Chas McCauley; and sister-in-law, Norma Bair.
Funeral service will be Thursday, March 13, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Shelton Memorial Christian Church with Pastor Casey Chapman officiating. Interment will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 12, 2025, from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.
