The #14 Butler Grizzlies came to Liberal and swept the Seward County Saints softball team 10-1 and 11-6 Sunday at French Family Field. The games were played under sunny skies with temperatures in the 60’s and light wind.
In game one, the Saints led 1-0 until Butler scored six in the fifth before adding two in the sixth and seventh. Seward was sloppy on defense with five errors. The Grizzlies out-hit the Saints 8-3. Kynleigh Kirby pitched six innings allowing two earned runs.
In game two, Butler took a 3-0 lead with one in the first and two in the third. SCCC scored in the bottom of the third. BCC scored four in the fourth to lead 7-1. The Saints plated two in the fifth to make it 7-3. The Grizzlies plated one in the sixth and three in the seventh to lead 11-3. Seward rallied with three in the seventh. Seward committed seven errors. Butler out-hit SCCC 14-6. Alyssa Morgan was 3-4 with a home run and a double. Morgan drove home four runs.
Butler is 9-1 and 3-1 in the Jayhawk. Seward is 7-13 and 3-5 in the KJCCC. Seward plays two at Hutchinson on Wednesday.
