Brooks Kappelmann threw a no hitter in game one and Seward poured on the offense in game two of a double header sweep over the Otero Rattlers Friday afternoon at Brent Gould Field in Liberal. The Saints took the first game 3-0 and won game two 15-5.
In game one, Brooks Kappelmann went all seven innings for the no hitter with 14 strikeouts and two walks. Seward scored three runs on four hits. The Saints scored all three in the bottom of the fifth. Nathan Hopkins was 2-3 with an RBI.
Kappelmann’s no hitter was the first for an SCCC pitcher since Brian Luna’s no-no in March of 2023 against Butler at Brent Gould Field. Sam Berberich pitched a five inning no hitter in a run rule win over Barton in April of 2021 against Barton. Tanner King spun a 7 inning no hitter at Redlands in 2019.
In game two, the Saints played a clean game while taking advantage of Otero mistakes. The Rattlers committed two errors allowing five unearned runs. Otero pitching walked 11. Hits were even at seven a piece. The Rattlers hit a home run over the right field wall to take the lead in the second. But Seward countered with five in the third and nine in the fourth for a 14-1 lead. Both teams scored in the fifth making it 15-2. Otero plated three in the seventh to make it 15-5. Beau Lang went six strong innings for the win. He allowed two earned runs while striking out six and walking one. Hayden Ramage went 2-4 with two doubles and five RBI’s. Brooks Barber was 2-3 with a triple, two RBI’s, and three runs. Emery Cairns was 2-3 with a home run.
Otero is 1-9. Seward is 8-8. The same two teams play Saturday at 1pm at Brent Gould Field.
