The Garden City Buffaloes used their press to pull ahead late and ultimately down the Liberal Redskins 75-59 Tuesday night in the Big House. Liberal played well much of the night as the lead see-sawed back and forth. But after Liberal cut the lead to 43-42 late in the third quarter, they were out scored 32-17 for the rest of the game after a dizzying array of Redskin turnovers and Buffalo layups.
The Redskins started strongly leading 12-10 after one quarter. The Redskins led 26-25 before the Buffaloes took a 28-26 lead at the half. Liberal led 29-28. The Redskins cut the GCHS lead to 43-42 late in the third. But Garden City finished the third quarter on a 10-0 run and the Redskins could not recover.
The Buffaloes shot 49 percent from the field despite going 2-17 from three. They were 7-11 from the free throw line. Liberal shot 33 percent going 6-19 from three point range and 9-17 from the foul line.
Garden City wins their eighth in a row over Liberal. The Redskins drop their 32nd straight WAC game. Garden is 5-15 overall and 3-5 in the WAC. Liberal is 3-16 overall and 0-7 in the WAC. Liberal hosts Dodge City Thursday night for Senior Night at about 7:45 on 1270 and 92.3.
