LIBERAL, Kan. — The flags along Kansas Ave. are Saints Green, signaling celebration to the community: It’s Homecoming Week at Seward County Community College. That means special programming open to the public all week, culminating in a Saturday packed with Saints spirit.
“We’ve been working all year to upgrade the game-day experience for Saints fans and build school spirit among our students and community members,” said SCCC President Brad Bennett. “For this week, our 55th Homecoming, we welcome the public to campus.”
Nightly progamming at 7 p.m. in the Clifford and Irene Pepper Showcase theater offers a wide range of entertainment:
• 7 p.m. Tuesday, a hypnotist program takes the stage.
• 7 p.m. Wednesday, SCCC alumna, educator, entrepreneur and public servant Sheyvette Dinkens speaks about her journey to success, and the importance of leaving a legacy.
• 7 p.m. Thursday, Saints students compete for cash prizes in a talent show.
• 5 p.m. Friday, Saints Hall of Fame inductees Dale Reed and Jelena Cohadevaric will present a panel discussion open to the public.
The highlight of the week, however, comes on Saturday, when a noon Tailgate-style cookout opens on the campus center green. Along with burgers and dogs, the event features family-style yard games and bouncy houses, along with an alumni table and T-shirt giveaway. The cookout is free and open to the public.
Meanwhile, Saints Baseball will occupy the diamond at 1 p.m. on Brent Gould Field; the doubleheader v. Otero College will continue with a 3 p.m. game.
In the Greenhouse, women’s basketball faces Hutchinson CC Blue Dragons at 2 p.m., followed by the Hall of Fame induction ceremony. The men take the court at 4 p.m., and Homecoming royalty court ceremony will take place during halftime.
Following the games, a Hall of Fame social is hosted by game sponsor Billy’s Ayr Lanes. Billy’s is located at 2050 N. Kansas Ave.
