Mike Fanning

Mike Fanning, age 66, died Sunday, February 23, 2025, at the Kearny County Hospital in Lakin. He was born November 20, 1958, in Ulysses, Kanas, the son of Woodrow W. and Margaret Faye (McKinney) Fanning.

Mike was a lifetime resident of Grant County and graduated from Lakin High School. He married DeDee Carlock on March 16, 1995, in Fairfield, Texas. Mike was a country boy at heart and loved mowing the grass at his farm and his mother’s farm. He enjoyed roping, loved anything related to John Wayne, and for 20 years he enjoyed searching for gold. Mike and DeDee were flawless dancers and were a vision to watch. Mike’s passion was farming and ranching. Five years ago, Mike brought home a goat and from there they have expanded their herd. He was happiest when he was on the tractor or during harvest in the combine and had his favorite buddy and grandson, Grayson, riding with him.

Mike is survived by his wife, DeDee of their home; mother, Margaret Fanning of Ulysses; children, Dusty Fanning and wife, Nicole, of Sublette, Brandy Yount and husband, Justin, of Garden City, Woodrow Fanning and wife, Abby, of Sublette, Nicole Webb and husband, Phillip, of El Dorado, Kansas, and Lee Foreman and wife, Donna, of McPherson; sister, Kathy Swank of Topeka, brother, Richard Fanning and wife, Glenna, of Coats, Kansas; and sister, Pam Hall and husband, Kent, of Arizona; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mike is preceded in death by his father, Woodrow Fanning.
  
Graveside service will be Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the Lakin Cemetery, Lakin, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be given to the National Kidney Foundation in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave., Ulysses, KS 67880. Condolences may be posted at www.garnandfuneralhomes.com.
