Wanda Gail (Alfson) Fischer

Wanda Gail (Alfson) Fischer was born on July 13, 1928 in Morris, Minnesota to Willard and Emma (Singbiel) Alfson and she left her earthly body behind to be with her Savior on February 23, 2025 at the age of 96.

Wanda spent her growing up years in Cyrus, Minnesota and helped care for her younger sister. Wanda was married to Frank Brown and children Phillip and Jacque were born to this union. The family moved from Morris, Minnesota to Minot, North Dakota for work for Frank and Wanda sold World Book Encyclopedias. The family then moved to Imperial Beech and Chula Vista, California to be near Wanda’s family. Wanda’s marriage to Frank ended and she met and married Noble Henson and the family moved to the Guymon, Oklahoma area. Noble passed away and Wanda later married Donald Fischer, gaining step children Kent Fischer and Luann Fischer. Wanda and Don had 25 years of retirement and traveling the United States by motor coach. They made friends all over the country. Wanda and Don were married for almost 40 years. After Don passed in 2017, Wanda was living in the assisted living in Guymon and met Herman McCutchen who was also a resident. Wanda and Herman married at the facility, both age 90. One of the bride’s maids was 103 years old and the other was her 30 year old granddaughter. Herman passed away in 2021.

Wanda was well known as a top notch waitress working at Denney’s Dinateria and Lindy’s in Guymon. Wanda later worked for Long & McKinnon’s Insurance Agency.

Wanda was a member of the Lutheran Churches where ever she lived and played the piano and organ for the Lutheran Church in Minot, North Dakota. She was also a member of the Methodist Church in Hooker, Oklahoma. She was a fabulous cook and enjoyed hosting family and friends. She stayed busy reading, crocheting, knitting, and playing games. Wanda was a favorite of the staff at The Legacy care facility in Stillwater, Oklahoma because she was so loving.

Wanda is survived by her sister, Fay and husband Verne Dodds; son, Phillip Brown and wife Dianna; daughter Jacque and husband Bill Egger; stepson Kent Fischer and spouse Richard. Step grandchildren include Leslie Bross; Craig Bross and wife Carolina; Mitch Egger and wife Jessica; Brent Egger; Lucas Grounds and wife Kelsey; and Marcus Grounds.

A memorial service honoring Wanda will be held on Saturday, March 1, at 11:00 at Robert’s Brothers Funeral Home in Hooker, Oklahoma
