The Seward Lady Saints used their defense to grind out a 59-47 win over the Colby Lady Trojans Thursday night at the Green House. Seward held Colby to 32 percent shooting and forced 18 Colby turnovers.
The Lady Saints led 14-9 after one quarter. Colby raced ahead to lead 23-16. Seward cut the Lady Trojan lead to 27-26 at the half . Seward out scored Colby 17-9 in the third quarter and 33-20 in the second half. Seward jumped out to a lead of 39-32 and led 43-36 after three. Seward led by as many as 14 (59-45) .
Seward won despite 36 percent shooting and 3-17 from three point range. Seward was 16-19 at the foul line. Seward held Colby to 32 percent shooting and 2-9 from the foul line to go along with a 9-13 night at the foul line.
Avery Marchino was Epic Touch Player of the Game with 23 points. Kezia Grant-Bobb had 10 points and 13 rebounds.
Colby falls to 14-=13 overall and 9-12 in the Jayhawk. Seward wins their fifth straight going to 18-8 overall and 13-7 in the KJCCC. Seward plays at Independence Saturday at 2pm with Saints Shoot-around at 1:45 on 107.5.
