Lady Saints Stun #5 Dodge City

For the second time in three years, the Seward Lady Saints win a home game over a first place Dodge City team.  Saturday afternoon in the Green House, Seward stunned #5 Dodge City 55-52.  It’s DC3’s third loss of the season and second conference loss.

Playing for the first time in a week, Seward came out ready to play taking a 9-2 lead.  DCCC stormed back to lead 11-9 after one.  Dodge owned the second quarter out scoring Seward 19-13.  The Lady Conqs led 30-19 before leading 30-22 at the half.  Seward out scored Dodge City in the third quarter 18-13.  A strong finish by Sanaa Dennis at the end of the third quarter made it 43-40 Dodge City and seemed to spark the Seward bench and crowd.  Kylie Hunt then swished a three to tie it at 43-43 and Allie Myers hit a 15 footer to give the Lady Saints a 45-43 lead with nine minutes to play.  Belief spread throughout the Green House.  Both teams defenses settled in for the next several minutes.  DC3 lead 52-49.  Kylee Hunt made one of two free throws with 2:04 remaining to make it 52-50.  RaMya Kennedy’s assist to Avery Marchino tied the game at 52-52 with one minute to play.  RaMya Kennedy gave Seward a 53-52 lead with 19 second remaining after making 1-2 at the foul line.  Allie Myers buried two clutch free throws with 13 seconds remaining for the 55-52 lead.

Seward forced 16 Dodge City turnovers and won despite 17 turnovers.  Dodge out rebounded SCCC 39-36.  Seward shot 36 percent and made 6-18 from three  and 9-14 at the foul line.  Dodge City shot 36 percent, well below their KJCCC conference leading 47 percent on the season.  DCCC had an abysmal outside shooting game going 2-21 from three.  They were 12-18 at the free throw line.  Dodge lost despite leading points in the paint 34-12.  Seward led points off turnovers 14-10.

Kylee Hunt was Epic Touch Player of the Game with 15 points.  Avery Marchino scored 11.  Allie Myers added 10 points and 14 rebounds.

Dodge City is 21-3 and 16-2 in the Jayhawk.  Seward improves to 15-8 overall and 10-7 in the Jayhawk.  The Lady Saints play at Barton Wednesday night at 5:30 with Saints Shoot-around at 5:15 on 107.5.
