The Seward baseball team led both of their games with Kirkwood going into the last inning Friday afternoon and evening at Brent Gould Field. In game one, Seward led 5-3 going to the top of the seventh before Kirkwood plated four to shock the Saints 7-5. In game two, Seward led 5-2 in the top of the ninth before the Eagles chased three across to tie the game at 5-5 before the Saints won 6-5 on a walk off in the bottom of the ninth.
In game one, Kirkwood plated one in the first before the Saints answered with three in the first. Kirkwood scored one in the third but the Saints tallied a run to lead 4-2 after three. The Saints scored in the fourth to lead 5-2. Kirkwood scored one in the fifth. Seward struggled on defense with four errors. Brooks Kappelmann pitched five innings with 10 strikeouts and one walk. He allowed two earned runs. Nathan Hopkins was 2-3 and Hayden Ramage slammed a home run over the left field wall.
In game two, Cooper Turner pitched five shutout innings. Brooks Barber’s line drive to right drove home the winning run for a walk off win.
Seward is 2-2 and plays Kirkwood Saturday at 1pm at Brent Gould Field.
