Mary Louise Campbell, age 66, died Monday, February 3, 2025, at her home in Ulysses, Kansas. She was born on October 16, 1958, to Raymond Shankle and Roberta Groomer in La Crosse, Kansas.
She married the love of her life, David D. Campbell, in 1977. Throughout her life, Mary worked as a waitress, housekeeper and clerk. Mary was a crafter. She enjoyed any and all crafts but had a particular fondness for crocheting and quilting. Mary enjoyed being around her family. She loved late late night chats with her daughter while they watched their favorite shows, causing havoc and giving her son-in-law, Nick, a hard time, along with spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mary was known for her love of frogs, Cheez-its, Red Diamond tea, ice cold Pepsi and Dwight Yoakam. Mary had a heart of gold and always wanted to help anyone in need.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Wendi (Nick) Hampton; son, William Shankle all of Ulysses; sisters, Debbie Shankle of Oklahoma, and Lisa (Dale) Theye of Garden City, Kansas; brother, William Groomer of Wiley, Colorado; sister-in-law, Barbara Groomer of Ulysses; seven grandchildren, Keegan Shankle of Ulysses, Kialynn Hampton (Brendon Pauda) of Ulysses, Conner Shankle of Satanta, Kiesha Hampton of Ulysses, KiaLhe Hampton (Seth Shapland) of Ulysses, Kamber Hampton (Ryan Staats) of Manter, and Korbyn Hampton of Ulysses; and 12 great-grandchildren, Shyanne, Pheenyx, Maverick, Hudson and NoraLynn Pauda, Laynee, Emmett, and Hadlee Shapland, Beau Staats, Allister and Bjorn Shankle, and Eden Otto.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband, David D. Campbell; parents; and two brothers, David Wesley Shankle and Kenneth Wayne Groomer.
