It was another game between teams with contrasting styles Wednesday night at the Power Plant in El Dorado. Seward is the lowest scoring team in the Jayhawk and wanted to play at a slower pace. Butler is the second hight scoring team in the KJCCC and wants to play fast. The Saints were able to slow the game down especially in the first half. But the Saints couldn’t keep up the #15 Grizzlies and Butler won 60-53.
Seward trailed 15-9 in the first half but controlled the tempo and trailed just 21-20 at the half. Seward led 25-22 early in the second half as they successfully took the Butler crowd out of the game. But the Grizzlies came out of hibernation with a 17-2 run to lead 39-27. The Saints answered with a 13-4 run to make it 43-40 Butler with 6:30 to play. Seward missed an open three pointer which would have cut the Grizzly lead to two with six seconds left.
Muhammed Jobe had 15 points and seven rebounds and was Epic Touch Player of the Game. Benni Kazadi had 13 points and nine rebounds. Loic Affouman had six points and pulled down 11 rebounds.
Seward shot 41 percent making 4-14 three pointers and 5-7 free throws. Butler shot 38 percent going 9-26 from three and 13-22 at the foul line. The numbers didn’t add up as Seward out scored Butler 34-18 in the paint but Butler shot 22 free throws compared to Seward’s seven.
Butler is 16-4 overall and 11-3 in the KJCCC. Seward is 3-17 overall and 2-13 in the Jayhawk. It’s Seward’s fifth straight loss to the Grizzlies and fifth straight loss in El Dorado. Seward plays at Pratt Saturday at 4pm on 107.5.
