The numbers don’t add up for the Seward Lady Saints. In Wednesday’s 61-53 loss to the Butler Lady Grizzlies at the Power Plant in El Dorado, Seward led points in the paint 38-24. Despite that fact, Butler got to the foul line much more often going 19-27 from the foul line while Seward was 6-8. So Seward got the ball inside more than Butler, but lost the free throw shooting battle. That coupled with an off shooting night from three point range were costly in front of a raucous crowd. SCCC was 1-15 from three point range.
Butler led 19-15 after one quarter. Seward outscored the Grizzlies 15-14 in the second quarter and Butler led 33-30 at the half. Butler led 48-40 after three. Seward cut the lead to 50-47 with four minutes remaining. Butler led 53-51 with 2:38 to play and finished the game on a 10-2 run.
Butler shot 38 percent going 4-16 from three. Seward shot 37 percent.
Avery Marchino was Epic Touch Player of the game with 18 points. Ari Gordon scored 17 points with six rebounds and four steals.
Butler beats Seward at home for the sixth straight time. BCC is 15-4 overall and 10-4 in the KJCCC. Seward falls to 13-8 overall and 8-7 in the Jayhawk. Seward is 3-6 in road games and 3-5 since Christmas Break. Seward plays at Pratt Saturday at 2pm with Saints Shoot-around at 1:45 on 107.5.
