Tommy Leo Perkins

Tommy Leo Perkins, age 85, passed away late Saturday evening, January 25, 2025, at the Wheatridge Park Care Center, Liberal, Kansas.

He was born May 11, 1939, at Hamlin, Texas, the son of Harold and Eunice (Wilcox) Perkins. As a young boy, he attended school in Hamlin, graduating from Hamlin High School in 1959. After his graduation, he then began working for the local lumberyard and later for Gibson’s as a manager and buyer until the business sold. In 1995, he purchased the Chuck Wagon Restaurant and Truck Stop in Meade, operating it with his family for many years.

He enjoyed woodworking, building barn doors, working, and spending time with his family and friends.

On February 19, 1985, he married Judy Taylor Bennett at Dodge City, Kansas. She survives.

Other survivors include his children, Russell Perkins of Crandall, Texas, Brenda Murray of Nocona, Texas, Stephanie West and husband Kerry of Meade, Kansas, Vicky Cruise of Meade, Kansas, Susan Thomas of Presho, South Dakota, and Beth Bryant of Fort Scott, Kansas; twenty-three grandchildren; and twenty-three great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother Harold Perkins.

Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 29, 2025, to sign the guest register at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade. In accordance to Tommy’s request, a private burial will take place later in the Graceland Cemetery, Meade.
