James Fieser poured in 30 and dragged the Liberal Redskins near the finish line Tuesday night at The Garden in Garden City. But it wasn’t quite enough as the Buffaloes held of the feisty Redskins 69-61. After trailing by 13 at the half, Liberal rallied to tie it in the fourth quarter and trailed by three in the closing seconds. It was arguably Liberal’s best game of the season.
The Buffaloes jumped all over the Redskins early with a barrage of wide open three’s. GCHS led 20-7 after one and 34-21 at the break. Liberal cut the lead to 47-40 and trailed 49-40 after three. The Redskins used a 9-0 run to tie the game at 49-49 on a James Fieser step back three from the top of the key. Garden City led 59-51 but the Redskins rallied again cutting the lead to 62-59.
Liberal was 5-25 from three point range and 9-13 from the free throw line. Garden City was 7-18 from 3 and 9-15 at the foul line.
James Fieser was Epic Touch Player of the Game with 30 points. Juan Diego added 15. Adrian Moreno-Gonzalez scored eight.
Garden City is 3-6 and 1-1 in the WAC. They beat Liberal for a ninth straight time in Garden City and seventh straight time overall. Liberal is 2-7 and 0-3 in the WAC. The Redskins play at Dodge City Friday night at about 7:45 on 1270 and 92.3.
