Liberal High School announces that Head Football Coach and Teacher Bryan Luetters will be stepping
down at the end of the 2024-2025 school year. During his three years at Liberal High School, Coach
Luetters has made a significant impact on the school, including transforming the football program. The
Liberal High School Football team achieved an overall record of 18-11, including a 5-7 performance in the Western Athletic Conference. The team’s remarkable success in 2023, marked by their best start in 20 years, earned Coach Luetters recognition as a Sports in Kansas Coach of the Year Finalist and the
Western Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. His leadership has extended far beyond football,
positively influencing all student-athletes and fostering an environment of growth, determination, and
excellence.
Beyond coaching, Coach Luetters has made a lasting impact in the classroom and in one-on-one student
support. His work teaching financial literacy to all juniors has equipped students with essential life skills, and his individual meetings with countless students to develop personalized financial plans have empowered them to set and achieve future goals. These contributions have been instrumental in
preparing LHS students for success beyond high school.
“Coach Luetters has been a vital member of our school community. His passion, dedication, and genuine
care for his players and students have elevated not only the football team but also the entire school. He has left an indelible mark, and while we will miss his leadership on the sidelines, his legacy will remain a part of LHS for years to come. We are profoundly grateful for his service and wish him the very best in the future,” LHS Principal Ashley Kappelmann said.
Athletic Director Kerri Miles added, “Coach Luetters has been much more than a coach to this
program—he’s been a mentor, a role model, and a leader for our students and staff alike. His ability to
inspire others, on and off the field, is truly remarkable. The success of the football team under his
guidance speaks volumes, but it’s the relationships he’s built and the lives he’s impacted that stand out the most. We are grateful for everything he has given to LHS and know that his time and legacy at Liberal High School will continue to inspire future generations.
“The past three seasons have been both incredibly challenging and incredibly rewarding. The high school administration and football players have been incredible to work with, and I’m grateful for the
relationships I’ve been able to build here at Liberal High School,” Coach Luetters said.
As LHS transitions to new leadership for the football program, the administration is committed to
building on the foundation Coach Luetters has established. A search for the next head coach will begin
immediately, with the goal of continuing the program’s growth and success.
Liberal High School and USD 480 extend their deepest gratitude to Coach Luetters for his years of service, dedication, and passion for the students, the school, and the community. We wish him every success in future endeavors.
