The Liberal Bee Jays withstood two lightning delays and beat the Derby Twins 3-2 Saturday night at Brent Gould Field. The Bee Jays are 7-0 overall and 3-0 in the Jayhawk League. College of Seqouias right hander Mike McBride improved to 2-0 afte pitching six strong innings allowing two runs and striking out three. Yavapai righty Parker Markel pitched two scoreless innings after the second lightning delay. Lamar’s Brandon Ward-Hersee pitched a scoreless ninth for his second save. The Bee Jays scored two in the third after Clarendon’s Edwin Arroyo led off the inning with a single and Chandler-Gilbert’s Aaron Mees doubled. Seward’s Kelby Tomlinson and Concordia College’s Joe Vaskas drove home the runs. The Twins tied the game with two runs in the fourth but Mees, who is 6-9 in the series, singled home Renny Weber in the fifth for the 3-2 lead. It was a test of patience for the BJ’s who started the game at 7:45 due to lightning.
