Cheri Lee Shelton, age 62, of Liberal, KS passed away Sunday, December 1, 2024, at the University of Kansas Health System, Kansas City, KS.

She was born July 18, 1962, at Buffalo, OK, the daughter of Delbert Wayne and Florence Ann (Shephard) Dodson. When Cheri was around 2 years old the family moved to Kelso, Washington, then moved to LaCenter, where she graduated from LaCenter High School in 1980. In the early 1980s Cheri moved back to Liberal, KS with her parents. Although after a short amount of time her parents moved onto Knowles, OK.

Cheri has been a longtime area resident of Liberal, KS, she waitressed at Golden Corral, she worked at the Homeland and Ideal grocery stores in the meat department as a meat wrapper, delivered newspapers, and worked/managed convenience stores. She was a very hard worker, as well as, being a mother and grandmother.

Unfortunately she spent the last 15 plus years sick a lot.

She enjoyed gardening, working in her yard, painting, playing volleyball and basketball, cooking, and spending time with her family and friends. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother (Nannie) and friend.

She also loved animals and wished she would have went to school to become a veterinarian. She had quite a few dogs and cats in her lifetime. She absolutely loved her dogs her current dog Kinzi, and former dogs Sadie, Shelby, Molly, and Bosco.

On July 26, 1990, she married Kenneth “Gene” Shelton, Jr. at their home in Liberal, KS.

Cheri is survived by her husband Kenneth “Gene” Shelton, Jr.; Two Daughters; Brittany Shelton of Liberal, KS; Carley Shelton and fiancé Dalton Smith of Tyrone, OK; Two Grandchildren Jolynn and Daxton Smith of Tyrone, OK; Stepdaughters: Shandi Ross and husband Scott Ross of Meade, KS; Two grandchildren Layne Ross and Skyle Ross of Meade, KS; Christina Rosendahl and Kyle Harold of Colby, KS; Three grandchildren Zachary Hailey, MaKenzie Hailey, and Teghan Rosendahl; Her mother Florence Dodson of Knowles, OK.

She is preceded in death by her father, Delbert Dodson; many Aunts and Uncles, cousins, and other family members.

Cheri Shelton’s Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held Saturday December 14, 2024 at 11:00 am at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary at 212 S. Fowler Meade, KS. In accordance to her request, cremation has taken place. Interment will follow the service in the Graceland Cemetery, Meade, KS.
